Have you ever wondered what Firewalk Facilitators do when they are not firewalking?
Unlike most professions we are very thinly spread on the ground, which can mean we don’t get to get together very often – but, just like our work, when we do get the chance we tend to play full out.
Earlier today I had a great opportunity to chat to Stephen Brown from Firewalking Ireland all about a get together a few of us are having next month – all about what we’ll be getting up to. Needless to say, it will be no ordinary holiday!
We will be doing some coasteering, some firewalking, and, the main attraction for me, taking part in an authentic Sweat Lodge.
The sweat lodge experience is being run by Rolf and Owsa Beckman from Sweden, qualified Master firewalkers in their own right, they have also run 100s of Sweat Lodges around the Globe, and I am really looking forward to learning from their experience and passion for what they offer. Their teachings honour the circle of life, and are undogmatic towards any spiritual belief system, offering opportunities for individuals to take part in the ceremony, or even train as Sweat Lodge Keepers themselves.
I am told that the Sweat Lodge teaches us to surrender. To give up rigidity, resistance, judgment, arrogance, defensiveness and hostility. The small aspects of ourselves, and that it is common that several participants gets a much deeper connection to their visions and goals in life, understanding their priorities in a more holistic way.
If you’d be interested in joining us in Ireland for the authentic Sweat Lodge experience, you can find all the details here, but in the meantime, I’ll leave you with the interview with Stephen – you’ll never guess what he wanted to be when he was at school!
